Buildings for Higher Education and Research

As the competition for ideas, talent and funding grows ever more intense, the need for campus and institutional buildings to function at a variety of levels has become imperative. EE&K’s approach to campus buildings goes beyond the notion of the free-standing icon, emphasizing instead the capacity of buildings to create high performance environments for learning both within and without.

EE&K’s experience designing everything from complex, urban, mixed-use academic facilities to signature campus buildings gives us a valuable understanding of the challenges of working at different scales, and a unique perspective on how campus buildings can be designed to create signature places both internally and in the larger campus setting.

Our work designing new campus facilities as well as the adaptively reusing and preserving existing structures provides us with a broad perspective on how campus buildings evolve over time and how user needs change. Our portfolio demonstrates that through imaginative reuse of historic buildings, as well as bold new architectural design approaches, existing campuses and institutions can be renewed for generations to come.
